1. What is VPC® technology and how does it work?
VPC® stands for Variable Position Counterweight™. It is a Manitowoc proprietary system that automatically positions the crane’s upperworks counterweight along the rotating bed based on the lifted load, boom length, and load radius. This optimizes crane stability and lifting capacity in real-time and eliminates the need for a passive carbody counterweight. This results in a reduced transport configuration, better center of gravity, and lower ground bearing pressure.
2. What is VPC-MAX® and how does it differ from standard VPC®?
VPC-MAX® is an optional attachment for the MLC300 that further increases its lifting capability. It includes additional components like a longer mast and a second swing drive. While standard VPC® moves counterweight based on boom angle, the VPC-MAX® system automatically repositions the counterweight based on forward movement, load, and radius. This significantly increases the maximum load moment and allows for longer boom and jib combinations, such as a 393.7 ft main boom. Notably, the VPC-MAX® counterweight assembly never touches the ground, minimizing jobsite preparation.
3. What engine powers the MLC300?
The MLC300 is powered by a Cummins QSG-12 diesel engine. It is a 6-cylinder, 11.8-liter engine that produces 450 hp (336 kW) at 1800 rpm. It is compliant with U.S. EPA/CARB Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IV emission standards.
4. What is the maximum lifting capacity of the MLC300?
The Manitowoc MLC300 has a maximum rated capacity of 386 USt (350 t) in its standard configuration. With the optional VPC-MAX® attachment, it is rated at 330 USt (300 t) .
